The Ravens had high hopes for 2004 after their narrow 2003 playoff loss to Tennessee, and things were looking good after a 7-3 start, but then the wheels came off mainly because of injuries to Todd Heap and Ray Lewis who is the glue that holds this defense together.

The Ravens have been showing a steady decline since their glory year in 2000. They have since gone 10-6, 7-9, 10-6, and 9-7....

IMO this is a pivotal season, Kyle Boller must step up now...he has weapons and 2 years under his bealt...no more excuses about the talent not being around him...

Brian Billick and his Offensive Guru tag , its time for Coach Wonderful to put some points on the board!

2005 Brings lots of changes including new offensive and defensive coordinators, a couple of speedy wide receiver additions that the Ravens hope will make Boller's development take a big stride, and a revamped defense that no longer features Ed Hartwell, but adds Samari Rolle in the backfield and Tommy Polley (local Baltimore product, Dunbar High School) back in the LB corps.... Losing upstart LB Ed Hartwell will be a big loss IMO....
The offense is now lead by new coordinator Jim Fassel who should open up the predictable 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense quite a bit. They are going to be using more creative formations, shifts, and movement to disguise their plays...FINALLY!

The Ravens may have some exciting times this year as they put it all together and eventually Mark Clayton and Derrick Mason will make an excellent receiver corps, with Todd Heap a staple over the middle with great hands and an uncanny knack for 'picking' himself between the ball and the defender...the offense should be way better!

The defense will still be good, but even it has some question marks with lots of changes including new coordinator Rex Ryan, and moving back to a 4-3 as well with the loss of Hartwell. Ryan has even said he may implement a version of his dad's "46 defense". They move one of their brightest spots Terrell Suggs to defensive end although he may be a little light to play there. Here is hoping he proves us wrong....Peter Boulware seems to be hurt annually, and as I mentioned Ed Hartwell loss will be a big one...

The defense is actually starting to show age , Ray Lewis is 30, Rolle is 28, and Deion Sanders is 38. The Ravens have done a good job filling in new talent, the question is can the new talent be the emotional leaders that this team has always needed on defense....Ray Lewis will still be there to get the most out of his teammates ....Ed Reed is still the best deep back, who can turn a game with one play...

The team should have much better balance, hopefully the defense with a good mix of youth and experience can still be near the top...

Journey,
Because my biggest win in the NFL came betting the Ravens for the SB, I have a soft spot for them. However, year after year, I have given reasons for greatness, regardless of informed opinion, and they have been my Achilles Heel.
Like me, you have probably not seen through the fog until this year, what people have been saying all along.

I have now jumped ship, they are in a worse position now than last year, but, lets not reminisce, instead take full advantage of the odds. Cleveland have a new management, Baltimore are over-rated and Pittsburgh, well, I could write a Thesis why they are toast this year. Which leaves a nicely priced Bengals, not the best of backings but, in the NFL, you have to take what they give you.:103631605

Hmm!!! Winbet, i suspect that you could be kicking yourself in the shin you broke jumping off the Ravens bandwagon. Now is definately not the time to jump off this one.....

As a true NFL network addict for the last week, i will be one to tell you that those guys on that Network are picking this team to make some noise this year. Also the locals around here seem to think this will be one squad to contend with next year.

That defense does have people who have the potential to do some big things,
Ray lewis, Ed Reed, Samari Rolle, Terrell suggs to mention but a few, are names that are known round the league for being able to turn games around.

Combine that with a bruising back in Jamal lewis, fresh off his jail stint and with a chip on his shoulder, New WR Clayton and dependable hands of Mason (yet another Titan on this squad) and that killer tight end Todd heap???? Dude, Jamal lewis could very well have well over 1500 yards rushing when its all said and done!!!!

i would strongly suggest waiting until atleast week 5 then bailing off the Ravens bandwagon if all those guys have failed to achieve any thing significant at that point...(Caution: We have seen teams like this come and go with out even sniffing the play offs, like the Redskins of some years ago who had like 9 or more pro bowlers on their team and couldnt do diddley with them)

lets not forget balti had no receivers, heap was hurt most of the year, and lewis besides off field problems was burned out from an unbelievable 2000 yard season, the jinx of all jinx's.

balt will be much improved, and if pitts doesn't get their act together with Hines, Balt will run away with division.

I love balt this year, going to the playoffs, and the afc better look out if Boller got any better.

Journeyman dont be a homer like me... your defense is old in places. and Lewis is depending on the new guys to step up more so that they wont key in him all the time.

no shock here

Kyle Boller has been ''uneven'' in practice thus far during camp.
With all the tools around him, Boller's major concern is still accuracy
